On the Greek Debt Crisis

Insider's View
Wed, 2015-03-04 11:33

This subsection is organized under the supervision of Professor Panagiotis Liargovas, Head of the Parliamentary Budget Office at the Hellenic Parliament and Professor of Economics and the Jean Monnet Chair in “European Integration and Policies” at the University of Peloponnese.

It will provide the latest economic research and commentary on Greece and the current crisis in a most authoritative and comprehensive way and without the political hype.

Commentary

Since 2010 when the Greek debt crisis erupted, a plethora of articles have been written on whether Greece's debt could become manageable even after the bail-out, whether Greece should stay or leave the euro and whether the austerity imposed will yield any results.

We have collected the best commentaries from economists in academia, think tanks and international organizations. In particular, and as the opinions have tended to become repetitive, we have selected articles that have introduced new and interesting elements into the debate.

Research

We have collected working papers that are relevant to the debt crisis that Greece is going through. The majority of the research we have included explores issues such as fiscal devaluations and sovereign debt default in a general context.

Working papers that specifically address the current Greek crisis are mostly on the contagion effect to the rest of the Eurozone and the negative externalities of the bail-out among others.
