On the US Debt

Commentary
Thu, 2011-10-20 11:57   -   (0) comments

Most of the commentaries we have collected for this section are written by US economists from American universities and think tanks. Does the US have a serious debt problem? How much do entitlement programs contribute to the deficit?

This debate, although American in its nature, has serious repercussions on the global economy especially when Congress ponders whether to raise the debt ceiling or not.

Most of the research papers in this section address the issue of high debt within the context of globalization and government size .

Recently though, as Congress raised the possibility of a nominal US default by not increasing the debt ceiling, there have been working papers shedding light on the vulnerability of the US economy due to its high debt level.
